Anniversary showcase celebrating 150 years of the Periodic Table

29 / 08 / 2019

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2019 the International Year of the Periodic Table. This year is the 150th anniversary of this major discovery made by Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev.

Various exhibitions, congresses and other events devoted to the Periodic Table are taking place throughout the year all over the world. They show the table’s role in science, research, technological progress and the world’s sustainable development.

This global initiative was reflected in the Khimia International Exhibition for the Chemical Industry and Science.

A specialised showcase about the periodic table will be open on all exhibition days from 16 through 19 September 2019. The exhibits will include the current developments in chemistry and materials science and various installations devoted to the periodic table from the oldest surviving table (Vienna, 1885) found in Scotland’s St Andrews University to some interactive exhibits. The visitors will have a virtual tour to the world of chemical elements, find themselves in the reconstructed study of Dmitri Mendeleev, and try out the menu of a molecular bar – beverages made by experienced bartenders using the laws of physics and chemistry.
