The 5th Moscow International Chemical Forum opened its doors at the leading trade show of the chemical industry – Khimia 2017 held at Expocentre Fairgrounds. The forum is organized by the Russian Chemists Union and Expocentre AO.

The Moscow International Chemical Forum is Russia’s only discussion platform which annually brings together representatives of the chemical sector, relevant ministries, and industry associations. The plenary session of the forum was devoted to government priorities of the development of the Russian chemical industry. The session was moderated by President of the Russian Chemists Union Victor Ivanov.

The main provisions of the Strategy for Development of Chemical and Petrochemical Sectors up to 2030 were presented by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Sergey Tsyb. He stressed a significant contribution of the chemical industry to the development of this country’s economy. He noted that the Strategy provided for implementation of about 200 priority investment projects with investment volume of more than one trillion rubles.

Sergey Tsyb said that a large set of measures of state support had been developed to reduce investment burden. According to the data, in 2016 the amount of government support for the chemical industry amounted to 2.4 billion rubles; for six months of the current year it exceeded 2.5 billion rubles. “The strategy implies increase in the volume production of chemicals up to 6.5 trillion rubles”, said the Deputy Minister. “Up to 2030 the share of the chemical industry in GDP of manufacturing is to reach 2%, now is makes 1.4%”.

Deputy Minister of Energy Kirill Molodtsov made a report on raw materials and key trends in the petrochemical industry. He said that up to 2030 the total amount of raw materials sent to the petrochemical industry should grow almost twice up to 44%; the production of bulk polymers is to increase by 3.2%. “It allows not only to cover our own needs but also carry out the tasks connected with Eurasian Economic Community when developing the common market of oil, gas and oil products,” said Kirill Molodtsov.

Fine chemicals are in the focus of particular attention; its development requires support from the government. In the current situation a growing interest in the gas and petro-chemistry will promote increase in the workforce capacity of the industry. It allows creating new products which will be competitive in the world market”, believes Deputy Minister.

Speaking about supporting events of the Khimia 2017 international exhibition held at Expocentre, Kirill Molodtsov said, “We already have the Energy Week, now we need to establish the Chemistry Week to bring together global manufacturers. We have the opportunities and I’m sure we can do it at Expocentre. We’ll actively contribute to it. Khimia is the industry in which Russia can take the rightful place in the world in the nearest twenty years.”

During the plenary session of the Moscow International Chemical Forum the participants discussed development prospects of different sectors of the chemical industry of Russia.

The forum will be carried on. The participants in round tables and sessions will discuss the development of fine chemicals production, implementation of the national technical regulations of the traffic of chemicals in Russia, public-private partnership in the chemical industry, and other relevant issues.
