Press conference devoted to Khimia’2009 and Plastics Industry Show’2009

25 / 09 / 2009

On 25 September Expocentre staged a press conference devoted to Khimia’2009 and Plastics Industry Show’2009 co-located at Expocentre Fairgrounds.

2009 sees the 50th anniversary of Expocentre and the 45th anniversary of Khimia, one of the company’s oldest events. Since its launch the Exhibition has remained the key trade show for the national chemical industry, even despite the current economic downturn. According to Mikhail P. Tolkachev, Expocentre’s Deputy Director, Khimia’2009 was to occupy 15,000 sqm to showcase products by 550 participating companies from 29 countries. The list of Russian exhibitors comprised 300 enterprises.

Sergey V. Golubkov, the First Deputy President of Roskhimneft ZAO, noted that despite the present recession, the organizers had succeeded in attracting participation from the national chemical leaders. That served as evidence that Russia’s chemical industry maintained its viability and had good recovery prospects.

The General Director of Production and Investment Company MAXIMA Inc. Oleg K. Pakshin said that over 110 companies from 9 countries were taking part in Plastics Industry Show’2009, co-organized by MAXIMA Inc. and Expocentre. The Exhibition comprised a first-ever collective display of Taiwan, conferences and the Made in Russia event, to name one of many.

Khimia’2009 is held with support and participation from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. It is part of the Ministry’s regular activity, including law making, aimed at developing the national chemical sector. The Exhibition provides conditions for Russia’s chemical industry modernization, as estimated by the Head of the Technical Regulations Division of the Department for the Chemical and Technological Sector and Bioengineering Technology of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Vladimir A. Potapkin. He also emphasized that the trade show allows assessing the prospects for the sector growth and creating prerequisites for cooperation between national and overseas enterprises, and for development of investment projects.

As President of the Russian Chemists Union Victor P. Ivanov pointed out, a tight programme of diverse related events as well as the interesting exposition itself was to become a special feature of Khimia’2009. The number of scientific events, including those within the Centre for Science and Vocational Training, is growing every year. Pavel D. Sarkisov, President of D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia and President of Mendeleev Russian Chemical Society covered the topics of the conferences devoted to innovation trends, recycling of raw materials, introduction of energy and resource saving technologies, just to name a few. Mr Sarkisov believed the contest of projects by young scientists is particularly noteworthy, as it both contributes to the introduction of forward-looking technologies and helps provide employment in the chemical sector.

Khimia’2009 is to play host to a meeting of the ICCA’s Responsible Care Committee meeting to be held in Russia for the first time ever. The programme of technical seminars will be undoubtedly interesting for chemists and chemical industry professionals. A number of events held within Khimia’2009 are devoted to Dmitry Mendeleev’s 175th birth anniversary celebrated this year.
