25 / 10 / 2017

Khimia 2017 featured a seminar devoted to the prospects of bilateral relations in the chemical and technological industry between Russia and India.

It is the first time that such event was held at the Khimia exhibition. It was initiated by the Chemical and Technological Exhibitions Division of Expocentre AO and the Indian Chemtech Foundation. This year Russia and India celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries. It makes the seminar especially relevant.

Deputy General Director of Expocentre AO Mikhail Tolkachev welcomed the participants and said that foreign companies chose Expocentre Fairgrounds as a platform to show their products and technologies and to enter the Russian market. He encouraged Indian companies to use this great tool to develop their business in Russia.

Councillor of the Economy and Commerce Department of the Indian Embassy in Russia Inbasekar Sundaramurthy noted that India was looking forward to expanding its cooperation with Russia. “We are interested in Russian investments, Russian business, development of cooperation and partnership,” said Mr. Sundaramurthy expressing his confidence the seminar would give a boost to it.

The Indian economy is growing. According to CEO of Chemtech Foundation & Jasubhai Media Pvt. Ltd Hemant Shetty, it opens new cooperation opportunities for both countries including cooperation in the chemical industry. It is forecasted that by 2020 the Indian economy will become the third largest in the world, and by 2025 the fifth in the consumer market volume. The chemical market also has good prospects. Mr. Shetty talked about his company and ideas to expand closer relations with Russia using opportunities provided by Khimia.

Leade Reseracher of NIITEKHIM Lyubov Ilinykh reviewed the trade and economic relations between Russia and India. She noted that India was Russia’s most important partner in the trade of chemical products. Today, chemical products make up 13% of the total value of Russian exports to India. Moreover, the export and import structure has become very diverse in the last five years. The most promising cooperation spheres in the coming years are most likely biotechnologies and production of composite materials, industrial paints and coatings, fertilizers and plant protection products.

The seminar presented three Indian companies, Adventz Group-Fertilizer Business, Lasern&Toubro Ltd, Simon India Ltd., and the Russian Big Asia TV channel.

Russian and Indian companies, government and financial institution representatives, researchers and industry experts discussed cooperation opportunities between the two countries.
